What is a Birthkeeper?
A birthkeeper is knowledgeable in the process of physiological birth; supporting birthers in their childbearing years and believes in the sacred wisdom that birth is a natural part of life.
Doula support is an ancient practice. There’s no certification that can validate doula support. Traditionally, it took much time and training to learn how to support birth and play an active part in someone’s pregnancy, labor + birth, and postpartum.
What is a DOU·LA?
A doula is a guide, a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to pregnant people before, during and shortly after childbirth to help achieve the most positive experience possible. The term doula comes from the ancient greek word δούλα, meaning woman’s servant. Throughout history and still today, women have been there for each other, supporting physically and emotionally and offering a calm presence through the work of childbirth.
Doulas offer judgement-free care as you bring your baby earthside. Doulas do NOT: perform clinical tasks, make decisions for you and your family, or project our own beliefs on you. It’s important to understand that doulas are not clinicians and give non-biased supportive care. In contrast, doulas teach and encourage self-advocation (as the doula echoes their wishes) through education about the physiology of birth, labor options, medical rights and consent.
Made by you, for you…Your placenta!
Placenta specialists provide preparation support (encapsulation, cord keepsakes, prints, tinctures, etc.) through safe techniques to promote healthy postpartum experiences. Placenta preparation is not a fad, it is an ancient art form serving more postpartum parents than ever before. Placentophagy (consuming of the placenta) is commonly seen in mammal births.
In many cultures around the world, placentas are honored as a sacred organ through burial rituals. Itʻs thought to have great mana (power) as it’s been a life source and nourishing the baby in the motherʻs womb during pregnancy.
